Mission
To redefine environmental issues as social and economic justice issues through education, advocacy and action, in order to collectively set our own agenda to address these concerns as basic human rights.

Vision
To empower marginalized communities by integrating environmental and social justice, ensuring they shape decisions that impact their health, environment, and future.


Community Programs

Lucha
L
eading various campaign like Lucha aimed to protect communities of color and working-class individuals from the environmental and economic impacts of zoning and land use planning

VERM
The program is committed to voter education and engagement, training staff and volunteers to register voters, assist at polling places, and campaign for voter rights.

Nahui Ollin
Educating the community on the links between environmental health and social justice, helping residents advocate for their rights and the preservation of their environment through workshops and campaigns.

Colorado River Conservation
Created a coalition of community stakeholders dedicated to protecting, preserving, and restoring the wild green stretch of the Lower Colorado River

Executive Director

Susana Almanza is a community leader and activist known for her work in environmental justice and advocating for marginalized communities in Texas

Susana Almanza (pronouns NEED)

Susana Almanza is a founding member and Director of PODER. She has overcome poverty and prejudice to confront powerful transnational oil corporations. As a Brown Beret, she participated in the civil rights movement, advocating against police brutality and for housing, quality education, and equitable healthcare.

She co-wrote the 17 principles of environmental justice at the First People of Color Summit in 1991 and has been fighting against environmental racism for over 30 years. Susana was recently appointed to the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council.
