Performers

  • A woman with dark hair styled in long braids, wearing a patterned jacket and a triangular earring, looks thoughtfully at the camera against a blue background.

    Xiuhtezcatl

Pushing the envelope on what hip-hop can look and sound like, Xiuhtezcatl’s message and depth transcends his mere twenty-one years on the planet, yet is still packed with all the hard-hitting grit that appeals to today’s generation of listeners. His rhyme scheme is raw and quick-witted. His thought-provoking lyrics are anchored by the Mexica roots on his father's side and the environmental justice work his mother raised him in.

  • A woman with curly dark hair holding an acoustic guitar against a dark blue background.

    Bedouine

Azniv Korkejian became a breakout artist in 2017 when her meticulous, self-titled debut Bedouine seemed to open a window in time. With striking, direct vocals and simple guitar accompaniment, her folk songs are not so much lullabies as they are imbued with the same loving focus a mother adopts while singing to a child. Immediately dubbed “a modern folk masterpiece” by Fader and praised as a “future legend” by The New York Times, Bedouine’s songs channel the mysticism of the ‘60s, always undercut by her utterly modern songwriting.

  • A person wearing glasses, a cap, an orange checkered shirt, and a gray sweatshirt outdoors with blurred trees in the background.

    Vic Barrett

Vic (Pronouns: He/Him) was raised in the great state of New York as a first-generation Honduran-American! He is proud of his roots, with his family being part of the Garifuna community. He appreciates the uniqueness of his heritage of being Afro-Indigenous and Afro-Latino which inspires a lot of his connection to the natural world and the ways we can challenge ourselves to understand it better. Vic is deeply invested in finding the best ways to exchange stories and lived experiences as a tool for promoting better understanding amongst people.

Special Guests

  • A woman with medium dark skin and brown, shoulder-length, natural curly hair, wearing a sleeveless green dress with pink and white floral patterns, standing outdoors near a wooden fence and some metal shelving with plants and decorative items.

    Leah Thomas

    Founder of Intersectional Environmentalist

  • A woman with long dark hair wearing a light beige t-shirt and earrings is smiling and posing with her hand on her hip outdoors near green foliage and a chain-link fence.

    Diandra Marizet

    Executive Director of Intersectional Environmentalist

  • A young woman with dark, wavy hair, sitting on the floor, wearing a red jacket, plaid pants, and sandals, next to a large potted plant against a white background.

    Kiana Kazemi

    Programming Director of Intersectional Environmentalist

  • A young man with dark hair and a slight smile, wearing a black shirt, standing outdoors during sunset with blurred trees in the background.

    Kevin J. Patel

We’re thrilled to foster this joyful space and welcome you to our manifestation of a future rooted in environmental justice, resistance, joy, art, and advocacy through Earth Sessions.

Our upcoming Earth Sessions in LA will be the second from our ongoing series of community driven environmental justice concerts. These intimate events combine art with activism, in order to hold space and create accessible, joyful, and educational moments for people with intersectional identities to find community and learn about climate justice.

The event will feature a poetry reading from Vic Barrett, as well as performances and engaging conversations between founding members of IE and local artist-activists, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez and Bedouine, regarding the importance of art in movement building.
