Who We Are: Intersectional Environmentalist (IE) is a Black-founded and WOC-led climate justice collective radically imagining a more equitable + diverse future of environmentalism. (501c3 EIN: 86-1232246)
Our Mission: Our mission is to increase awareness and access to education about intersectional environmentalism and drive support toward grassroots environmental justice efforts.
Our Vision: A world in which the communities and voices most impacted by environmental injustice have the power, resources and platforms to lead their own communities into full liberation.
We aim to drive a transformative change in environmental education, activism and policy by positioning environmental justice and equity at the forefront. In doing so, we seek to eliminate the gap that exists between grassroots voices and environmental solutions, which currently exclude the communities most impacted by climate issues from environmental decision-making, movements and educational systems.
Location: IE is a CA based organization with a remote team and volunteer network all over the country.

Our Impact
-
Grassroots Amplification
To eliminate the gap that exists between grassroots voices and environmental solutions that exclude communities most impacted by climate issues, we’ve launched ‘The Intersectional Environmentalist Database’ - a search tool hosted on our website to connect people directly with organizations near them by topic area, identity group and more.
-
Media Capacity Building
To address a lack of visibility grassroots organizers receive, we launched ‘The IE Amplifier Program’ - a media capacity-building initiative that aims to amplify the efforts of participating organizations across IE’s media ecosystem. Through this program, IE designs engaging media assets to connected people with organizations leading intersectional approaches to environmentalism in their own communities.
-
Resource Distribution
IE creates digital and print resources including toolkits, the IE book, podcasts, youtube videos and zines to address the absence of environmental justice education curriculums in the U.S. and increase awareness and access to education about intersectional environmentalism for educators, professionals, and individuals.
-
Educational Trainings
Through our IE training programs, IE empowers teams around the world to reshape environmental education, initiatives, communications and more to center intersectional environmentalism. From large scale team trainings + workshops to intimate leadership circles, IE works alongside organizations to foster an intersectional approach to business, sustainability, and community building.
